A Personal Message from AJ
Thank you for stopping by my website. I am very pleased to have been awarded a benefit year by Nottinghamshire for 2008.
It’s a great honour to have played for Notts for the past eight years and to be awarded a benefit is fantastic. It will be a big year for me and the club as we return to Division One and I’m very focused on having a good season and will be spending the winter working on getting fit and ready for action. The supporters and members of Notts have always been very kind to me - just as the Derbyshire fans were in my time with them - and I am looking forward to giving something back next season. I’ve already been fortunate enough to enjoy a decent career and firmly believe I can play on for another three or four seasons.
My full name is Andrew James Harris although I am, of course, better known as AJ Harris. I was born on June 26, 1973 in Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire. I am a medium-fast bowler and a right-handed batsman having made more that 120 first-class appearances, taking over 400 wickets at an average of just over 31.
I turned professional in 1993, making my first-class and List A debuts for Derbyshire County Cricket Club that summer. In the 1996 season I played well, and the team challenged for the County Championship. My performances in that season led me to a place on the England A tour to Australia the following winter.
In 2000, I moved to Nottinghamshire and was a key member of Nottinghamshire's Championship-winning side of 2005, taking 49 wickets.
